The solve4biggies.com guest article is supplemented by a damning of the massive federal tax subsidies given to non-renewable energy industries.  These are the complete opposite of what is needed -->  we need to shift costs TO non-renewable energy.  Ask yourself, "Why do these subsidies exist??"

Answer: follow the money; the money the energy industry has, is the money sitting representatives need to stay in "their" jobs.  They don't rent.  What's needed: true campaign finance reform with publicly funded election processes.  Why would we the people have it any other way?
