This journey started on November 9, 2005 with my entry into the Best Idea Since Sliced Bread competition. I planned on winning the $100,000 first prize. I didn't win, place or show.

-> SHIFT Income Tax to Energy Tax
U.S. problems:
- Record trade deficits
- Few "boom" industries creating jobs
- Foreign energy dependence
- Resources spent on foreign energy interests
- Pollution
- Tree huggers yelping about McMansions and motorboats
- Global warming
How to significantly improve? Policies like Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards? No. Why do we have patent laws and antitrust laws? They create a market environment that benefits everyone -- Google "Tragedy of the Commons."
The idea: Shift a percentage of federal income taxes to federal energy taxes (BTU or carbon tax). NOT a tax increase. Phase-in over 15 10 years to develop new technologies and for market adjustment.
Clock is ticking; worldwide energy demand is exploding - think China.
Inflationary? Our economy is handling recent energy price increases and will handle this phased-in approach. Can we consume less energy? Yes, see www.sinceslicedbread.com for ideas.
Improving the first four problems will boost the economy and create jobs. The U.S. will lead in creating renewable energy and conservation technologies - creating jobs. We have hindered the market with low energy prices.
