communism (noun)

...control of wealth and property to the state;

...the state controls the economy.

Wonderful news - both the Senate and House are working toward legislation to limit the emission of greenhouse gases.  Current Senate proposals focus on cutting carbon-dioxide emissions.  Other suggested measures include increasing energy-efficiency standards and promoting cleaner-burning fuels.  In the House, Speaker Pelosi is creating a committee to recommend legislation for cutting greenhouse gases.

But there's a problem.  All of the proposals nibble at global warming in a communistic fashion.  The proposals are inherently inefficient.  How can any group of legislators (the state) know the best way to allocate resources to solve such a huge problem?

We need market-based solutions to set the stage for our ingenuity, drive and marketplace to solve these problems.  We need a solution similar in function and scope to our patent and antitrust laws - change the "rules" for the long-term benefit of all.    (Google "Tragedy of the Commons")

      I agree, but, many elected officials are very nervous about the idea of cutting "green house gases" IF impacts their constituencies.

        The challenge for us (those that elect them) is to convince them that tax shifting is a POSITIVE impact on their constituencies.  One way to do this is to convince the public of the merits of decreasing federal income taxes and raising federal taxes on non-renewable energy; then the public leads the leaders.
